VEA channel interview of Lee with a program called ‘El Analista’ en July 16th, 2016 & its basic contents (in English)
The original VEA canal interview took place at 8 30 in the morning of July 16th, 2016 for 30 minutes (+extra 4.6 minutes of the USL original pilot study summary video from Dongchan Lee) was aired in the morning of July 17th nationwide. Due to the video length restrictions, we split up the video to 3 parts (because the VEA canal attached the 4.6 minute USL pilot study introduction video at the end of the interview). So we put these 3 parts as on a playlist so that the viewers can see the entire video continuously.
VEA Canal ‘El Analista’ interview: part 1 (15 minutes)
- The origin of USL
- In the international school math standard, the average school math in Guatemala (especially for the primary schools) is F and the progress is exceedingly slow.
- What the 1 standard deviation boost of the national school math average (from the current national average of F to about the national average of C of Chile, Uruguay and Mexico) means to Guatemala in very short years of 2-4 years instead of 50-100 years.
- This about 1 Standard Deviation of national math average boost is roughly equivalent to boost the national math grade levels by 3-4 years in Guatemala (about 2 grades boost in the average OECD countries).
- USL operations will be 100% based on the internet and tablet-based education and some motivations why.
- How Lee will be able to bring the radical and efficient 100% tablet-internet-based education infrastructure reforms in Guatemala in just 2-4 years (instead of decades) if there are the national government supports and collaborations with the excuse of the USL1 (which is equivalent to boost the national school math average by 3-4 years in Guatemala and most of the Latin American countries).
- Debunking the typical myths about boosting the national economy by raising the average school years.
VEA Canal ‘El Analista’ interview: part 2 (15 minutes)
- How to reduce the national level of math poverty and the financial poverty by about 60-70% very quickly at the same time using USL1.
- How to make the USL1 to be implemented, what do we need to do? 1) The direct collaborations and supports from the Guatemalan national government and Ministry of Education of Guatemala; 2) In case the national government doesn’t take action early enough in 2016 for USL1, then the national media of communication need to make the USL1 efforts known by publicities so that Lee can make public noises in other countries so that he can return to Guatemala later (next year or so) to put the pressures on the national government and Mineduc to embrace this revolution taking place in math education efficiency and the modernized education infrastructure nationwide.
- The general severe inefficiency of the national Ministry of Education of Guatemala and why and how to overcome this.
- The suggestions of the interviewer (Hugo Rolando Lopez) of VEA canal to the president and the minister of Education of Guatemala to invite Dongchan Lee to open the discussions and to explore the collaborations together.
VEA Canal ‘El Analista’ interview: part 3 (6.5 minutes)
- For more details about USL and USL1, visit uslgoglobal.com
- Lee emphasizes the national school math average as the most powerful factor for the economic growths for most of the countries in the world.
NOTE: For those who are not Guatemalans or cannot listen to Spanish, my suggestion to you is to focus on just the Part 1 and 2 because Part 2 is more specifically about the criticisms and what need to be done more politically here in Guatemala to make the government embrace the USL1.
The following letter grade classifications are meant to be rule of thumb as the letter grades are relative; however, the overall patterns depend on where to fix A and the widths of the letter grades descending will change very little overall.
For the countries where the national math average in the international standards are around the following categories, I will focus on the initial attentions to the following.
- around A or A- (Germany, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Cuba, etc.)
- B to B+ (typically the USA or the already developed countries or most OECD countries)
- around C to C+ (such as Chile, Uruguay, Mexico, or some math-poor states of the USA such as Alabama, New Mexico, DC, California, etc.)
- around D (for countries like Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Argentina, etc.)
- around F (for Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Paraguay, etc.)
